How to deal with the Gainesville weather

Right now the weather is getting a bit colder, nothing drastic but from a South Florida native I feel the cold! It is important to know how to dress for the weather in Gainesville year-round.

1. Dressing warm during the winter:
If you’re coming from up north, you cannot only bring shorts and a t-shirt for the entire year, it does get cold from November to early February. Bring (or buy) a jacket, sweaters, many many socks, sweat pants, leggings, long-sleeve shirts. In winter you can get away with wearing jeans or sweat pants with a short sleeve shirt and sweater or scarf. You don’t usually have to layer a ton of clothes but sometimes in the morning if you have an early class you can wear an undershirt with a long sleeve shirt. The hard thing about Gainesville weather is that it could be freezing in the morning and hot by the middle of the day.

2. Dressing for the heat during the summer:
Also if you’re from South Florida you should know it will get cold and it will get HOT! The heat in the summer is ungodly, it is super difficult in the summer because the air is very dry and hot. Bathing suits are good to have, shorts, tank tops, sandals. It is also important to have hats or baseball caps to cover your face from the suns harsh rays. It is also important to wear sunscreen in the summer.

3. Dressing for the rain:
It is important to know that it rains a lot during the summer months so be prepared with a rain coat, jacket, rain boots and proper attire. It is important to buy clothing for each season.
